Description

Vineyard

The 2024 vintage comes from a remarkable Swartland vineyard first planted more than four decades ago. These old vines, rooted in koffieklip soils of decomposed granite and iron-rich clay, deliver fruit with natural concentration and complexity. The southeast-facing slope ensures long hours of sunlight, while dryland farming encourages deep roots that draw character from the land. The result is grapes that capture the true essence of the Swartland bold, expressive and enduring.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, this old-vine Chenin reveals aromas of ripe pineapple, juicy stone fruit and candied pear, lifted by a gentle herbal note of fennel. Oak ageing brings texture and richness, adding creaminess to the mid-palate. Flavours of tropical fruit and citrus unfold in layers, while the finish remains dry, pithy and refreshing. This balance between fruit and structure makes the wine both generous and precise.

Food Pairing

This Swartland Chenin pairs beautifully with rich seafood dishes such as lobster, crab or creamy prawn pasta. It also complements roasted chicken, mildly spiced curries or earthy vegetarian meals like mushroom risotto. Its layered palate allows it to stand up to a wide range of flavours, making it a versatile choice for both casual and special occasions.

Cellar Potential

The 2024 vintage is approachable now, offering freshness and vibrancy. However, with five to seven years of careful ageing, its oak and fruit will integrate even more, unlocking added depth and savoury complexity.
