Description
Vineyard
The Spice Route Pinotage 2019 grows on a single block of bush vines planted in 1997 at Klein Amoskuil in Malmesbury. These dryland vines dig deep into Koffieklip soils, producing small berries packed with flavour. The warm Swartland climate ripens the fruit slowly, while cool nights keep natural acidity in balance. As a result, the vineyard delivers concentrated, expressive grapes that define this Pinotage’s power and poise.
Winemaking
Harvest took place at peak ripeness to capture pure fruit. The bunches fermented in small, open concrete tanks, and the team performed manual punch-downs twice daily to extract colour and texture. After pressing, the wine completed malolactic fermentation in tight-grain American oak barrels, half new and half seasoned. It then matured for 16 months, gaining richness and polish. Every step was guided by attention to detail, resulting in a Pinotage that feels bold yet refined.
Tasting Notes
This vibrant red glows a deep ruby hue. Aromas of blackcurrant, ripe cherry, and gentle vanilla rise from the glass. On the palate, layers of dark fruit unfold with subtle oak spice and a soft hint of mocha. Smooth tannins add structure, while balanced acidity keeps the finish clean and elegant. Each sip invites another, proof of how effortlessly this wine marries richness and charm.
Food Pairing
Spice Route Pinotage 2019 is made for flavourful meals. Try it with a perfectly grilled steak, spiced lamb curry, or slow-cooked beef ribs. It also pairs beautifully with smoky braai dishes and mature cheeses. Serve it slightly cool to highlight its fruit, and you’ll find it hard to stop at one glass.
