Description

Vineyard

The Spice Route Mourvèdre 2023 originates from a single vineyard of unirrigated bush vines planted in 2001. These vines grow in koffieklip and oakleaf soils, producing naturally low yields of just 3.5 tons per hectare. Because the vineyard is farmed organically, the fruit carries a pure expression of place. Warm days in the Swartland ripen the grapes fully, while cooler evenings preserve their freshness. As a result, the vineyard delivers balanced grapes that reflect both richness and energy.

Tasting Notes

This vintage presents a savoury, aromatic nose with red fruit, herbs and spice. On the palate, lively berry flavours combine with earthy spice and youthful tannins, creating a firm yet refreshing structure. The slightly earlier harvest in 2023 gave the wine a fresher, fruitier edge, while still keeping the varietal’s trademark depth. In addition, the seasoned oak ageing adds subtle texture without overwhelming the fruit. The result is a wine that feels both robust and approachable.

Food Pairing

The Spice Route Mourvèdre 2023 pairs beautifully with robust dishes. Try it with grilled lamb chops, herb-crusted beef or venison. It also works well with Mediterranean classics such as roasted vegetables, tomato stews or charcuterie platters. Moreover, its freshness allows it to shine alongside braaied meats, making it a versatile companion for both rustic and refined meals.

Cellar Potential

You can enjoy the Spice Route Mourvèdre 2023 now for its vibrant fruit and youthful energy. However, it also has the structure to age gracefully over the next three to five years, softening its tannins and developing more savoury complexity.
