Description
Vineyard
Spice Route Chenin 2024 comes from dryland vineyards in Paarl, part of South Africa’s Coastal region. Here, unirrigated vines grow deep into granite soils, producing small berries packed with flavour. The warm days allow the grapes to ripen fully, while cool nights retain their natural acidity. This balance between richness and freshness is the hallmark of Spice Route Chenin, making it one of the winery’s most expressive whites.
Winemaking
Harvested by hand in the cool early mornings, the grapes arrived fresh at the cellar. They were destalked and gently pressed to capture pure fruit flavour. The juice settled naturally before cold fermentation in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the young wine rested on fine lees for several weeks, adding complexity and length while preserving a lively character. Every step of the process reflects Spice Route’s focus on quality and authenticity.
Tasting Notes
Spice Route Chenin 2024 glows pale yellow in the glass. Aromas of tropical fruit and juicy peach rise first, with subtle flinty notes adding intrigue. On the palate, the wine is broad and generous, balanced by crisp acidity and a refreshing lemony edge. The finish is long, vibrant, and elegant designed to leave a lasting impression.
Cellar Potential
This Chenin Blanc is rewarding right now for its freshness. However, it also has the structure to evolve over 3–4 years, developing deeper, honeyed flavours with time in bottle.
Harvest Date
Mid to late February 2024.
