Description
Vineyard
Spice Route Syrah 1999 was made from fruit sourced in the Swartland. This region is well known for producing wines with character and depth. The grapes were bought in and selected to express the full potential of Syrah in a classical style.
Tasting Notes
This vintage shows the hallmarks of mature Syrah. Aromas include sweet savoury notes alongside hints of spice. The palate is rich and concentrated, supported by refined aged tannins. With time in bottle, the wine has developed further layers of complexity, making it a true expression of its time and place.
Cellar Potential
Spice Route Syrah 1999 forms part of the Vinoteque Collection, released in limited quantities to highlight wines with excellent ageing ability. Having already spent decades in bottle, it offers collectors a rare opportunity to experience fully developed Syrah from Swartland.
Winemaking
The Syrah was crafted in a traditional way with daily pump overs during fermentation. After fermentation, the wine was matured unfiltered in 100% French oak barrels of 225L size. It was racked every six months during the 18-month maturation period before bottling.
