Tasting Room & Tours
Over the past few years, Spice Route wine has been available for tasting out of the Fairview tasting room. The Spice Route tasting room has finally found its new home. In essence, the Spice Route’s name reflects what the vineyard, the wines and the people are all about. It recalls the ancient mariners of the 15th century braving the tempestuous waters of the ‘Cape of Storms’ as they plied their trade bringing exotic Eastern spices to Western Europe along the so-called ‘Spice Route’. (The view of Table Mountain from the Spice Route tasting room takes the imagination back to the scene which would have greeted those bygone sailors as they rounded the Cape Peninsula). In much the same way Charles Back went sailing into largely uncharted waters on his route to realising the viticultural potential of the Swartland wine region. His venture’s name is equally evocative of the style of wines being made: rich, complex yet infinitely enjoyable, with ripe fruit of the finest quality skilfully enhanced through careful oaking… much as carefully selected spices bring out the flavours in a dish. So make your way to the Spice Route Tasting room, and enjoy the journey.
The tasting room is part of the old cellar on the farm. Choose to taste our award winning wines in our cosy underground tasting room, or outside under the pergola or on the grass, whilst enjoying magestic views of Table Mountain and the Simonsberg Mountain range.
The relaxed, informal atmosphere as well as the tranquil surroundings are perfect for wine tasting.
Spice Route tasting room offers two journeys:
| The Standard tasting – R25 per person |
| A selection of six (6) wines from the Spice Route range including Flagship Syrah and Malabar. |
| The Food and Wine Experience – R90 per person |
| Taste the full range of nine (9) Spice Route wines including three food pairings. Our chefs
have taken great care in creating these culinary delights that showcase the restaurant’s exciting new menu. Our winemaker has carefully paired his wines with these food offerings. |
| Cellar tours |
| Private cellar tours are available for pre booked groups of ten persons or more. |
| Public cellar tours are available daily at 11:00am & 15:00pm for groups smaller |
| than 10 persons. Tours depart from the entrance to the tasting room. All cellar tours must
be accompanied with a wine tasting. All cellar tours R10pp. |
| Terms and conditions Bookings are essential. |
| All groups of ten (10) or more persons must pre-book their wine tasting. Maximum group size is
40 persons. Bookings can be made at tasting@spiceroute.co.za or 021 863 5200 |
| Groups without bookings cannot be guaranteed service.

Directions
From Cape Town on the N1:
Take exit 47 (Stellenbosch/Wellington/Klapmuts)
Turn RIGHT towards Klapmuts
At the four-way stop turn left onto R101 (follow signboard to Fairview)
After passing Simonsvlei on your right, turn LEFT into the Suid-Agter Paarl Road (follow signboard to Spice Route)
Spice Route is on your right hand side, about 4km along the road.
